Hi,
We're running UCM 6.1 and are in the process of rolling out IP communicator, which has been a massive hit. We have hit a problem however, QOS. Can someone confirm what ports VT advantage uses for it's video stream. We are using this on some of our desktops and a recent chat with a CCIE got me worried as he claimed VT advantage uses a single stream and the same ports as the IP communicator. Is this right? Seems a really bad design if it is.
Big thanks to anyone who can help.
The CCIE person you spoke to was right. From the SRND (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/7x/endpnts.html#wpxref41487):
"...Cisco Unified Personal Communicator and Cisco IP Communicator with Cisco Unified Video Advantage are both voice and video capable, which presents two challenges when using the ACL and policy map for packet classification and DSCP re-marking. First, Cisco Unified Personal Communicator uses the same IP address and UDP port range to source voice and video streams...."
Software endpoints are a challenge when it comes to QoS marking indeed, but you can find some guidelines on how to work around those challenges in the SRND. From a design perspective, I believe it makes sense to join the voice and video part of a call into one stream as otherwise you could have weird behaviors if you treat them differently from a QoS perspective. That's why the voice part of a video call is marked following video standards for QoS and not voice standards.
Hope it helps.
Cheers,
Jose
