I'm curious how many of you are considering moving to Windows 7 and if you have considered how it will affect things like CUPC,CIPC or CAD or done any testing.
It doesn't appear that Cisco has posted a Windows 7 support page like they have for Vista (yet) - which is somewhat surprising since with my customers we're seeing a much higher adoption rate for Windows 7 (customers ready to move once its available) vs when Vista came out and everyone was waiting to see how bad it would be.
I did ask our channel - the response they received of "it will be 6 to 8 months from the time it hits the shelves before we will support anything on Windows 7" is, to be blunt, ridiculous and what prompted me to post this question.
While it may not be available for purchase, Microsoft has put out a Release Candidate so you cannot honestly say that no testing can be done. The reason that they put those candidates out is for people to being testing their software on the new platform - waiting to begin your testing until the software is on the shelves is remarkebly shortsighted. My customers (especially the ones that write software) have been testing Windows 7 in their environments for over 6 months so that they can move quickly when it is released to support their internal staff as well as their customers.
I hate seeing erroneous information. Windows 7 has RTM'd and that was on the 22nd of July. I can't believe Cisco doesn't already have access to the RTM builds but if they don't they will by Friday when it will be on Technet and MSDN.
and FWIW if a Cisco App worked in Vista it has been working fine in Windows 7 Beta and RC for me. Frankly I haven't had a single app from any vendor that works in Vista not work in Windows 7 except those that might be html based or dependent and thus have to deal with the changes in IE8.

From a Cisco perspective I've seen TAC is not supporting clients running on Windows 7 yet. So it's up to the customer to use them on a Windows 7 PC, as you said it can work, but it something breaks or is not working TAC won't fix it. Some applications like CUVA need to install drivers and they don't work on a Windows 7 machine.

You cant honestly tell me that Cisco doesnt have a TechNet subscription or MSDN.
Windows 7 has been availible for testing for the last 6-8 months.
OK after beating our heads...this is the conclusion.
IPC 7 & Unified Video Advatage 2.1.2 work well with Win7 x32 However CDP does not work with Win7 x64 (which I have) So if you are runnig Win7 x64 you cannot use your desk phone with Video Advantage just IPC.
We're working on a web page that will document Windows 7 support across the entire Cisco collaboration portfolio (similar to what we published on vista). This page should be up at the beginning of October.

It has to do with Windows 7 x64 bit which does not allow none signed drivers from working.
This happens to be a problem with Windows 7 x64 bit. I am sure same problem occurs with Windows Vista 64 bit.

I'm not sure my problem is the same as the one that Patrick Aland is mentioning.
My problem is with CUCIMOC for Windows UC.
When i try to make a call, i get an error saying "Could not place call because you have no audio device or sound card"
The audio works fine for everything else (skype, msn, google talk and Office Communicator pc 2 pc.)
Video Advantage works with Win7 x32 and x64 however; on x64 you can only use it with IPC. It wont connect to the desk phone. So as long as IPC is runing it works fine. I have Win7 x64 and use it alot but like i said only with my IPC running.

The problem I have seen from day one is the CDP driver does not install and CUVA cannot see your desk phone. For the IT dept, IPC with bluetooth, it will work fine. as for the CFO, whole new ball game; I need to find a solution for his video to pop up when he switches to w7
Tell you CIO to keep IPC runing in the back groud. And you are correct...if Cisco is not going to support Video Advantage with Win7 then what is the new product going to be and when can we expect to see it?
P.S. Your boss can use video with Microsoft Office Comunicator 2007...we use it. I'm sure Cisco loves that!
I would also like to see IPC work wiht the ASA phone proxy.
As for keeping IPC in the background, that would work, but then he must make and recieve calls from his PC, which would be fine for the CIO, but this is the CFO.. :-)

Thats not true...you can have your IPC up and running and at the sme time utilize your desk phone or the 7921 wireless. I keep my IPC running alot in the back groud but actually use my desk phone. When I get lazy I then use my IPC. You can have 10 phones set up with the same extenion and use anyone you want. You can even dial your own extension form your extension and answer one of the other phones. It's al good.
See you realy don't have to do anything.
How do you get the VT Advantage drivers to install with x64?
I receive a "DIFXAPP: ERROR - You need to use the 64-bit version of DIFXAPP.DLL to install drivers on this machine" in the log file.
Video advantage installation works fine but as already pointed out, no luck with CDP.
You dont CDP ony works with x32
I assumed because you were using Video Advantage with IPC with Windows 7 x64 that you had managed to install the VT Advantage drivers so that the cameras were usable. Unless I'm misunderstanding the purpose of Video Advantage software (which intalls with no problems in Win7 x64), there's no point using it without the cameras?
Are you able to install the drivers for Cisco VT Camera in Windows 7 x64. I don't seem to be able to do it.
What I can't understand is these are Logitech cameras OEM manufactured for Cisco and Logitech has drivers for similar models published. How difficult is to just takes these drivers and make it available for us.
Apparently, it seems to be very difficult.
Is there any software engineer out there who can take those Logitech drivers and make it work for the Cisco VT Camera's? If we keep waiting for Cisco, it will not be before the next version of Microsoft OS release.
Just found a nice how to for installing the drivers for VT camera on Windows 7 64-bit:
1) Download the latest driver from Logitech's website for Vista x64 for the QCP 5000.
2) From a non-Windows 7 PC (or from XP Mode), run the installer. Let it extract all of the files, and DO NOT PROCEED through the installation process (or if it errors, keep the error message open). Go to the Temp folder where the files were extracted (in my case, in XP Mode, it was C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp\QuickCam_11.1.0) COPY (don't Move) this folder to a location that's accessible to your Windows 7 system.
3a) For Cisco VT users, go into the \QuickCam_11.1.0\Drivers\x64\PRO464 folder and edit the lPRO464v.inf file. Do a find-and-replace, finding 08C5 and replacing it with 08C7 (this essentially makes the inf file identify your Cisco VT device ID as a QCP 5000). Save and close the inf file.
3b) Go into Devices and Printers. Go into the properties for the USB Composite Device, find the Unknown Composite Device, and update the driver. Select to manually specify the driver location. Point it to the \QuickCam_11.1.0\Drivers\x64\PRO464 folder, and you should be all set.
Thanks, I found the same information too, but it didn't work for me. I realized that my PID is different (08B6) and when I made some changes, my camera finally worked;

The logitech Pro4000 QuickCam 10.5 x64 suggestion works for me.
It works. I have Win 7 32 bit and have downloaded "QuickCam® Pro 4000" Vista drivers from Logitech, followed the instructions (although in my case the path is "C:\Program Files\Logitech\QuickCamWebInstall\Drivers\x32\PRO" and edited all the .inf files (08CE with 08C7) just to be sure

We use this app in our env and began rolling out w7 x64 as soon as it RTM'ed. Every product we use is supported or has a supported version of the software for W7 and 08 R2, except for Cisco and Oracle. Oracle's problem is there web-based product just doesnt work with IE8, it's nothing directly related to W7.
I notice for Video Advantage the statement "No plans to support on Windows 7" is noted. Why would that be? is Video advantage being EOLed?

I checked the link out you posted and it's not clear if CUCM 7.1(5) Administration is supported by IE8. Is that notated somewhere else?
also, is Unity Connection 7.1 Admin supported by IE8?
UCCX 7.x Admin supported by IE8?
I'm not sure if it matters that the customer is running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, but I'm assuming they are forced to run IE8 on that OS.

Same here on CUVA since running it in compatibility mode doesn't make it the CDP drivers work.
I've had no luck getting CUPC to work properly. Under Help > Show Server Health, the Presence and Softphone status keep bouncing between connected and disconnected. I've tried running in various compatibility modes, as well as installing different versions of the client; no luck. This one app is holding up my upgrade.
Are you using at least 7.X? I've had no issues running CUPC and I don't even run it in compatibility. Try turning off all the firewall rules.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I Just loaded Video Advantage 2.1.2 and it works well with IPC 7.0 However; it does not reconize my desk phone. When I look in VT Help it shows aplication versions 2.1.2.0 and no driver showing for CDP Driver Version?
Oh by the way we are runing Windows 7 and it is not the Beta. Now I upgraded from Vista and all went smooth however; one of my staff put a new version of Win7 and not an upgrade and he too had the same problem. So he unistalled VT 2.1.2 and installed VT 2.1.1 with IPC 7 and his is working now. I tried all and I cant seem to get the CDP drivers installed on mine???????????

You know its not that CIsco is dragging its feet with providing 'real' Windows 7 support. Its the fact that any kid can go download Skype and setup video calling to anyone in the world in a matter of minutes. Some how Cisco has managed to cloud its product line into so many segments that they've created an evolutionary nightmare to maintain and upgrade their applications.
Its sad that you can spend 50 or 60 thousand dollars on a phone system and not have proper support for your enterprise operating systems almost a year after a product is released for public testing.

Windows 7 is still in Beta version. The estimated release date is in October 2009. As it has not been released no tests can be made.
Once it is released by Microsoft and after some testing, we can provide a compatible version for Cisco's clients (IPC, CUPC, CAD, etc) and
support. If you need more information about the plans to support Windows 7, I will recommend you to contact your Account Team.
This question has been asked by customers in TAC and PDI, but currently there's is no support or info we can give, but the BU is aware of
this requirement.
