What was the event?

It was a Hackathon, in which DevNet was participating with two technologies: Enterprise IoT Tool Kit and Tropo.

It was all about encouraging participants to think creatively and outside-the-box, producing solutions that had to be related to the Internet of Things in some way. Bonus points were awarded for interoperability, creativity, and use of donated technology.

Here's what they said on their website:

"Industry 4.0, also known as the “fourth Industrial Revolution,” is poised to change manufacturing and other industrial processes as we move forward in the 21st century. Although M2M and other connected technologies have been in use for decades, the recent years have seen a new wave of innovation in these areas. Everything in the factory is becoming a potential source of valuable data that can be used to improve the product, manufacturing efficiency, and worker conditions. Potential uses for Industry 4.0 technology are hyper-customization of manufactured products, improving factory safety and other conditions, monitoring condition of machinery and other equipment, tracking worker efficiency, and improving supply chain operations."

How was DevNet involved?
Two of the technologies you played with were our Enterprise IoT Tool Kit and Tropo.

  • EIoT Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) USB-to-ethernet adapter that allows simple Python scripting to pull information from enterprise sensors across the network.
  • Tropo exposes a cloud API for creating applications that use phone calls, voice recognition or text messages. We will introduce you to its easy-to-learn, easy-to-implement scripting environment designed for creating a wide variety of communications applications.

Thanks to everyone who attended - it was great to see you all there!
