I have been trying to give a guest OS (Windows 7 ultimate) access to the USB port on the SRE module.  I have added the "USB Controller" option under VSphere, and the guest OS does load drivers for USB, but it does not recognize external devices plugged in to the USB port.  Is there anything else I need to do to get an external USB device recognized?

Also, I noticed in the documentation on the SRE modules that there is an internal "eUSB" 2GB storage module - is is possible to access this via a guest OS.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I did not realize I had to go back and add a USB device after adding the USB controller.  Things are perfect now.  Thanks very much.

    Hi Jay,

What is the device that you are trying t connect to the uSB? Some devices may not be recognized by ESXI and thus the guest os cannot see the device. To make sure you have configured the  USB pass-through correctly check the article http://vstorage.wordpress.com/2010/07/15/usb-passthrough-in-vsphere-4-1/.

If you have tried the procedure in the article above and you still see an issue can you let us know what is the error or message you get?

The onboard eUSB on the SM itself  you cannot  use it for Guest VM as that is used by the hypervisor.

    Thanks,

    Radhika
