    Hi,

I was wondering if we could remove the Console Manager address after we've installed and configured the SRE-v.
I understand we will not be able to do stuff like importing or exporting virtual machines from the SRE-v. However we would still be able to access the SRE-v and the VMs running on them and we could deply new virtual machines using the vSphereClient. Of course if we need to install or upgrade the SRE-v we would want to deploy an IP to the console manager again.
The reason I'm asking is because a network administrators would be hesistant to deploy an extra IP address just for the console manager and would like to manage everything using the vsphere client.

Would this cause any undesirable effect? Our tests showed nothing disastrous other than not able to perform the SRE-v import/export activity. Anything I'm missing?

    Thanks!

    Hi Christopher,

If there is no IP address for the  console manager there can be some side effects to it.  Example an  install/uninstall from IOS will not work. The router and the module heart beat mechanism can be broken and the router can assume that the SM is having some issue and reset the SM. These are only some of the side effects that might happen.

From sre-v release 2.0 we will not have the requirement for a separate IP address for the console manager.

    Thanks,

    Radhika

    Ok Thanks Radhika,
We will keep the Console Manager IP until the 2.0 release.

    Thanks,
    Chris
