I'm wondering if there will be any way from within a guest os running on vsphere to find out the UDI of the SRE-V blade, or some other method of tying licensing of the image to a specific blade.

    Tim,

I checked with the system and with the team and it does not look like there is way currently to get the UDI from the Guest OS. Can you explain your use case a little more.

    Thanks,

    Radhika

Basically our application running as a guest application has a serial number of its own. The guest application can communicate with a management server not running on the SRE blade. We were trying to ensure that each guest application has a unique serial number, and can't be copied and have two instances with the same serial number communicating with the management server at the same time.

We'd like to be able to ensure that each copy of the application has a unique serial number tied to a piece of hardware. Our idea was to base the serial number for our guest application on the UDI. We don't really need the UDI specifically. We're just looking for some sort of indicator that's unique to the SRE.

    Thanks,
    Tim
