    Hi,

I've got some very simple code that sends various XML commands to phones. Of interest today are the RTPMRx and RTPMTx (multicast receive/transmit) commands.

If I take the following XML: <CiscoIPPhoneExecute><ExecuteItem  URL="RTPMRx:224.10.10.10:32000"/></CiscoIPPhoneExecute>" and send it to a 7941/42/45/61/62/65 it works fine. Similar for the RTPMTx variant.

But if I take the exact same command and send it to a 7940/60 it responds with "<ResponseItem Status="1" Data="" URL="RTPMRx:224.10.10.10:32000"/>". It sometimes responds with "Busy" in the Data portion of the response.

I've tried different priorities for the ExecuteItem (0, 1 or 2) and different firmware on the 7940/60 (currently running 8.1(2)). No difference.

Other commands work fine - key presses or even RTPMRx:Stop are processed ok and return a response status of "0".

According to the developer guide for the phones, the 7940/60 do support this: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/all_models/xsi/5_0_2/english/programming/guide/ip502ch3.html

Has anyone got any good (or for that matter, any!) ideas?

    Thanks!

    B.

    Hi Brett,

Could you please send me the corresponding Wireshark capture for this issue?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Anitha

No problems. Two captures attached - one is "working.pcap" which is to a 7942 and the other is "notworking.pcap" which is to a 7940 and includes the HTTP retreival of the response from the phone.
Take 2: The interface here won't let me upload files with an extension of ".pcap" so I've changed the extension on both files  to .wmv (why not?) but obviously the format is still pcap.

    Enjoy. ;-)

Brett, do you solve this problem? I have the same behaviour on my 7940 phone.

Cisco do not want solve this problem because this model is no longer supported.

The older phones include code that checks for a valid multicast range 225.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255.  The example earlier includes a 224.x.x.x range, you may have success in the indicated range.
